The previous year's Oleano had lyrics stating "where's the captain?" for a reason. The album Levitate was felt by some to have poorly captured potentially great songs, that had been done better live. Others differ of course, and cite Levitate as one of The Fall's best. Whatever the case, this collection gathers together some weird and inspired tracks, including Crackhouse, a creepy synth track that was not released. I'm a Mummy was a cover of an obscure track by Dor, a pseudonym for Rod McKuen, an early track before he went on to become a best selling poet and musician in America. Unfortunately I have not felt able to include Everybody But Myself...one version was simply quite weak (as hinted the songs veered from powerful to poor...), and the other was included on Levitate, in both edited form, and in full on a limited CD2 with that album. As with the 1990 Fall compilation, the sequencing was done to best reflect the song's original place in the running order of the gig whence it came. The best introduction to this is simply to listen - it's The Fall at their strangest and most inspired at times. Happy New Year, and enjoy.
