Outro The Fall turn up in their home town via North Wales and Newcastle losing their keyboard player somewhere along the way. This is a great shame as much of this current set was written with keys as one of the main ingredients. I wouldn’t say the set suffers (perish the thought), but you will miss Mrs Smith on this one. I spent the earlier part of the early part of the evening with friend’s inc. Ed Blaney, who is just about to release his solo album featuring tracks with MES. Ed ate the lion’s share of his Italian meal and then said he wasn’t happy with it. We complained so he got a free meal even though he’s eaten it. I can’t imagine any restaurants survive in Salford. So we ambled over to O2 Ritz just in time to miss the support band called Cabbage. I don’t like cabbage. The venue was busy but not rammed, but enough to get its infamous wobbly floor moving like you’re on a boat. There’s some crowd chatter on this recording as there was a lot of younger women there for some reason. I tried to avoid them but just ended up next to another conversation about make-up or some such shit. And then the air con comes on half way through. Air con in Manchester in April? Now that’s an oxymoron if ever there was. I should have worn my Damart long johns. You get a bit of air con on the recording. Wise Ol man and 2014 hit the spot with me, especially as MES gets to play with a mini keyboard thing on stage. You’ll hear him going at the ivory’s hammer and tongs on these, and it’s brilliant. So rock solid stuff here to enjoy, but I’ll be interested to see if there’s a bit of a shake up next week in London. And he has got 4 nights to shake about with so it will be interesting in many ways I’m sure.
