I got into Bristol around 8pm almost 2 hours late sweating like a pig and starving hungry. Then I get to the club after the most terrifying bag search conducted by the most terrifying female security guard on the planet. I wasn’t really in the mood which was soured further by 2 cans of Guinness for 10 quid. Missed much of Ed Blaney / Jim Watts band which was a shame as that was the reason I trekked all the way down there to record it for him. Ed’s got a new album out which has been well received, however MES starts his set by saying it gave him depression. Ed’s a bit like Marmite, but I quite like Marmite. Another thumping solid set from The Fall here. UTC a new one for me which is great as I thought this had been dumped after ATP. You’ll hear a lot of ‘backing vocals’ from a lad in the crown who was given a mic and a lyrics sheet to try and decipher. Problem was he kept the mic and kept singing for a number of tracks. Fair play though as he did seem pretty familiar with the current set. Amusing ramblings from MES during the First One Today gap. Super solid stuff but again I have to say I miss Elena on the keys. MES did this time have what looked like her keyboard on stage but he’s no Liberace.
