The debut live outing for the former Fall group since the passing of MES.. The White Hotel is a stones throw away from Strangeways. Formerly some kind of garage/workshop - it reminded me of a place called 'The Kichen' Hulme/late 80's in which some enterprising young lads had knocked through a few flats (IIRC) to make a late night what-have-you.. Very friendly/chilled atmosphere, a lot nicer on the inside than it would appear from the outside.. Drinks served by a hostess who I kid-you-not stood in the inspection pit whilst surrounded by chilled beverages. Nice touch. When I heard about this gig I thought I just had to find my way there - self catharsis I guess since the passing of my life long anti-hero. So I did the 350 mile round trip back North armed with a mic just in case nobody else captured said moment. (There is an alternate mp3 source doing the rounds if you google about). We got talking to drummer Keiron, he's a really sound guy I thought - gave us 15 mins or so of his time just before he had to go on stage. They (Imperial Wax) have a new front man and plan to record very soon. No rehearsals with Damo at all, just get together and play, as is the case with his other 'sound carriers' of choice on his other dates. Judge for yourselves, I really enjoyed it, it is of course not The Fall but the big man would have more than approved I reckon. Btw, this is only the third gig I have ever taped, the last being the Durutti Column in '89 (Royal Exchange) and the 1st being the Bunnymen in the Free Trade Hall the year before that. About time I gave something back I thought..! Cheers Paul (dime: slangking) Shure MV88> Iphone > 16/44 WAV > Reaper DAW/UAD plugins to lift the fog/light mastering EQ, dynamics & levelling > FLAC
